January can easily be such a dreary month, but here is your reminder that you have the power to change that! To me January is full of optimism and hope as we have the chance for a fresh start and reset from the previous year. Filling the month with fun activities that embrace the winter landscape, like skiing, helps – and adding fun and cozy pieces to your wardrobe doesn’t hurt either!

Does anyone else find it very hard to step out in style when the temps are below freezing? Sometimes it seems like the only option is to wear a big down coat that practically swallows you and drab snow boots, but that doesn’t have to be case! 

The look I wore on a recent getaway to Bretton Woods Ski Resort is the perfect example. I think any piece that works both on and off the slopes is a great investment. This black ski coat by Troy London is on the pricier side, but well worth it since it keeps me warm in any temperature, is a versatile  black that I can be paired with anything and has a belted waist trimmed in velvet that creates a flattering silhouette.

Moving back to New England has reminded me of the importance of serious winter coats as keeping your core warm is essential. I personally like to invest in a couple of really high quality, neutral colored winter coats (before you ask – I consider red a neutral!) and then accessorize with luxurious cashmere, cable knits, and fun pops of color or prints.

I can never get enough fair isle, and layering on pieces like this hat and these mittens is a favorite way to add some personality to a winter/ski look. The pattern is timeless and often features a fun array of colors. Tip: look for fair isle made from wool/a wool blend. Wool will keep you warmer than any other textile and is water-resistant. You can’t go wrong with tartan either!

    I love scarves. They truly are my favorite but they need to be knitted. I think it just warms up any outfit .
