Fall Foliage at Mount Washington

Earlier this month we made our annual trip up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to admire the fall foliage. The trees often turn on the mountain tops first, and the Bretton Woods area was aflame with color during our visit. Of all the beautiful places to visit in New England each autumn, the giant wrap around porch at the Omni Mount Washington has to be my favorite spot. We often drive the Kancamagus Highway or do a short hike through Crawford Notch on our way up to the Omni, then settle into one of the big wicker chairs on the porch for the afternoon, watching the sun set over Mount Washington. This was the first time bringing our baby boy and he absolutely loved it, smiling at the other guests as they walked past.

I packed old and new favorites for our trip to the White Mountains, including this denim shirt that is the perfect wash and a 4 season workhorse, and my trusty Barbour Jacket. A couple new additions I’m especially excited about this fall are these gorgeous oxblood horsebit flats and this handsome leather hobo bag and this perfect fall fair isle sweater.

My Sweater – If you own a classic Barbour Jacket, this sweater is a no brainer. (More sizes here!) Also made by Barbour, it picks up the colors in their iconic plaid jacket lining and is the perfect coordinating piece. I love the thick turtleneck and swingy shape that fits over a button up shirt perfectly. Whether apple picking or wrapping presents it’s a beautiful option for all your autumn and winter activities. (Plus it’s only $160!)

My Bag – I had been looking for a large everyday bag to carry my things plus our baby essentials and this large hobo from Hunting Season is just the thing. It’s spacious without being cumbersome, has a nice thick strap thats comfortable even when it’s packed with all the things, the cognac leather is incredibly versatile and I love that it’s not a standard tote shape – so chic you’d never guess I’m carrying diapers and wipes in there! Whether you’re looking for a bag to take on your commute to work (it fits my 16″ macbook), or just something that carries a lot for your day to day this bag will definitely ensure you do it in style.

My Shoes – I love equestrian inspired apparel and accessories and have been slowly collecting pieces featuring the Gucci Horse bit for several years and they’re some of my most worn items, especially in autumn and winter. When I saw these burgundy flats I knew they were a style I’d enjoy and treasure for years. The rich burgundy color complements so many other autumnal hues in my wardrobe and they’re flattering and super comfortable. (I did order two sizes, and kept the larger size, which just felt better in the toe.)

Stacie, I’ve only recently found your blog and have to say that you encapsulate the easy elegance that I love.
I also thoroughly enjoy the way you lace travel through your words, so that we’re sharing the same location.
Living as far south of the globe as one can go without falling into Antarctica, I enjoy seeing places which aren’t likely to feature on my life’s itinerary.
Thank you for the effort you put in.

Love the bag but a big negative that the site does not show a photo of the inside. I have to have a light colored lining/contrasting print or I am not purchasing the bag. If it’s a same color/dark lining I am out.

Hi Aubrey, The inside of this bag is beautiful – the same color as the outside but a suede finish. Sounds like it wont fit your criteria, but gorgeous nonetheless. 🙂 xx Stacie
