Nothing like a few days in NYC during the holidays! Seeing the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center while 8 months pregnant gave me a new perspective on a favorite Christmas tradition, and highlighted the magic of the holidays for children and the fantasy of a child’s imagination. We can’t wait to bring our little boy to see the performance in a few years!
My baby bump has really popped the last week and I’ll be reaching for this sweater dress from J.Crew as a foundation of many of my holiday looks. It’s a fabulously chic cut whether you’re pregnant or not, and I just sized up so it wouldn’t stretch too much. I topped it off with this metallic lady jacket that has both silver and gold threads (fabulous!!!) and a fun black feather heel. Dressing in one color head to toe is great for giving a longer line to your figure, and the slightly cropped lady jacket creates a high “waist” (even if you don’t have one!) above your hipbone creating the look of longer legs. The stilettos help too!
After the show we cabbed down to Indochine, a favorite spot from when we lived in Manhattan and it was just as delicious as we remembered! It wasn’t decorated for Christmas (I don’t know if they ever do?) but it’s worth a visit regardless. (It has a very glam, old New York vibe, think Diane Von Furstenburg ordering a martini at the next table over in the 80s.) We always order the spicy beef salad, sweet and sour market fish, and fried banana with tapioca for dessert.

My school took our third graders to see the Nutcracker. We taught them about dressing up to see the ballet. After the performance, our third graders got to meet the cast during a luncheon.

Hi Stacie!
The Nutcracker is my favorite ballet! Tchaikovsky‘s score is the first piece of classical music. I was introduced to by my mother when I was only about six years old. I wanted to tell you I’m really enjoying your blog! I recently discovered it, and I find it wonderful and beautiful and very entertaining!
Congratulations to you and David on your baby boy to be! Wishing you the very best! Happy holidays to all of you!
With love,
