What to Pack for a Trip to Charleston

Spring is my favorite time of year to visit Charleston – I love how the flowering bushes and trees compliment the pastel-hued homes that dot the city. The weather was very spring-y during our March trip with warmer days and chilly nights so below you can find everything I wore for Charleston’s transitional weather, and a few must-have items for any spring trip to the Holy City.

Dresses – I love the ladylike style of Charleston women and most days were warm enough to wear a dress but mornings and evenings required a sweater. I  packed several dresses which felt just right with either a sweater thrown over my shoulders or a trench coat. Since it’s still a little chilly in March I opted for dresses with short sleeves (as opposed to strappy styles) which also feel feminine and elegant.

Jacket – A fabulous trench coat is a spring must-have, and I packed this super lux one from Charlotte Brody for the trip. (I also own and love this one and this one!)  I brought along a little Chanel style jacket that is perfect with jeans and flats (mine is from Giambatista Valli) but also love this less expensive version!)

White Jeans – I often reach for white denim in the springtime because it feels warm weather appropriate but also provides more coverage and warmth than a pair of shorts. This pair of white jeans is fantastic (though I recommend sizing down one or even two sizes!) I also brought a darker denim version of the same pants they’re just so comfortable and effortless.

Shoes – Charlestons streets are old with many cobblestones and uneven sidewalks, so I’d recommend opting for block heel sandals, espadrille wedges, or these walk-all-day ballet flats.

Here’s a complete list of all the outfits I wore on my trip to Charleston!

My sis and I spent some time in Charleston after Christmas. It’s beautiful and full of history. I think your looks were perfect for the city. The only thing I would add is if you plan to walk a lot as we did, bring comfortable shoes. I love seeing your looks and you have inspired me. Thanks for sharing!
